What is somatic experiencing?

Somatic Experiencing is a body-oriented therapeutic approach that aims to resolve symptoms of stress, shock, and trauma that accumulate in our bodies and nervous systems. Trauma, from an SE lens, is focused on how it shows up in the nervous system and how that dysregulation impacts life. When we are stuck in patterns of fight, flight, or freeze, SE helps us release, recover, and become more resilient. Learn more here.

I’ll help through this process, tailoring each step to your unique needs and circumstances. My approach to SE comes from a place of empowerment: reminding you that you have choices and options.


  • We will learn to attend to the sensations within your body and develop language around narrating your somatic experience.

  • We will Identify resources that help you find stability and safety.

  • We will slowly move between safety and discomfort to increase your capacity to move through your trauma/stressors. We call this process of expansion pendulation.

  • We move gradually focusing on small, manageable steps to process activation that arises for you as you move toward healing.

  • Re-wire patterns stuck patterns in your nervous system so you move away from over familiarizing with survival and embody thriving.

  • Somatic experiencing session can vary depending on the goals of each session. We allow the body to lead. That will look like tracking sensations that arise in your body and making meaning from the sensations. We will often reorient to the present to ensure we are moving at a pace that is appropriate for your healing.

  • The length of therapy varies based on your individual goals.

    Some clients find they reach their objectives in a few months, while others benefit from ongoing support.

    Others may pause and return to therapy as needed during different phases of life.

  • You will be able to attune to yourself, slowdown, and increase capacity to move through stressors and challenges using SE tools. You will no longer feel stuck in a chronic cycle of fight, flight of freeze. You will have an increased sense of confidence and compassion toward yourself!
