welcome to my corner of the internet
Welcome to my corner of the internet! Hi, I’m Tolu and I am a Licensed mental health professional based in Houston, Texas. I see clients in person in Houston, Texas and offer Telehealth services throughout Texas and Washington. The name of my practice came to me easily: Re-member Counseling. Re-connecting what has been dis-connected.
Meaning behind the name
Dis-member: As the human species has evolved we have become less connected to ourselves, the earth, and the community of living beings. I believe this disconnection has fueled the multiple polycrisis we find ourselves in today. Trauma fragments us, disconnects us, isolates us, etc. The systems we live under enact this slow violence on us daily.
Re-member: is a desire to re-connect what has been disconnected. Stress, trauma, anxiety, burnout are a few of the long list of things that fuel disconnection/dismemberment. Re-member counseling strives to slow down, ground, remember, rest, expand joy and resilience, and imagine a better future.
What type of clients do you serve?
Re-member counseling serves black, indigenous, people of color. In addition, we support 1st and 2nd generation immigrants. Serving these populations comes with a level of cultural competence that is imperative to doing good therapeutic work. I am mindful of the balance of coming from a collectivistic culture while balancing the tension of pursuing your indvidual desires without fully abandoning yourself and/or community.
My hope for this blog…
This blog is a space where I can share my thoughts, musings around somatic healing, embodiment, decoloniality, BIPOC folks, mental health, therapy, relational skills, interdependence, etc. Excited to begin this journey with who lands here!
